Food Waste Recycling

One of the food processing areas that recycles food waste from the public or the building's kitchen to regenerate their values. The recycling process offers two methods: self-service or manual service. Individuals can sort their food waste at home and send it to the centre for further processing in the food waste biodigester. Alternatively, they can send the food waste to the centre, where staff will sort it, grind it, and channel it to the connected biodigester.

The by-products of the biodigester, biogas, will be returned for kitchen cooking usage as well as liquid fertilizer for the building's garden and public use. The purpose of the area is to raise public awareness about food wastage and educate them on managing food waste to reduce environmental impact.

Target audience: street vendors, market operators, small-scale farmers

Chief's Food Hall

The centre empowers local culinary entrepreneurs by providing opportunities to build and expand their customer base in the food hall. This ensures their sustained success, enabling them to transition from the food hall to the broader community, with new entrepreneurs taking their place. The selected chief-partner will commit to a three-year agreement, and in return, the centre covers overhead and offers weekly workshops to enhance entrepreneurs' business skills.

Besides, dine-in customers are educated on responsible food disposal using sinks equipped with built-in food grinders, directing waste to a food waste biodigester on Ground Floor. This initiative aims to raise awareness about reducing food waste. Additionally, the centre accepts food delivery orders, increasing exposure for these entrepreneurs to a wider public audience.

Target audience: street vendors, food entrepreneurs, businessman

Food Solutions - Food Processing Centre

Street vending offers the opportunity to earn a substantial income, contributing to economic activity. However, it also poses challenges like encroachment of public spaces, waste disposal, and hygiene concerns. While street vending stimulates the economy, addressing associated problems become crucial for maintaining a balance between economic opportunities and urban challenges.

Food Solutions is designed to contribute positively to public spaces in three dimensions: social, economic, and environmental. The initiative involves the establishment of a food recycling area responsible for collecting food waste, subsequently producing fertilizers and biogas. Simultaneously, the centre grows and distributes excess food to those facing challenges in affording their meals. Furthermore, the centre offers business spaces to aspiring food entrepreneurs, providing them with opportunities to learn, innovate, and establish a robust customer base. This holistic approach aligns with the goal of fostering healthier communities and sustainable practices.

Integrated Aquaponics and Greywater Recycling Hub

The Aquaponics facility is designed across three floors. The First Floor is open for rent, offering a community-accessible area for personal gardens. Meanwhile, the Ground Floor and the Second Floor serve as essential areas dedicated to the operation of the building's kitchen and a food bank.

In terms of sustainability, the greywater generated from sinks undergoes a treatment process within the facility. Initially, the greywater is directed to a reed bed situated on the upper floor. This reed bed acts as an initial treatment stage, where natural processes contribute to the filtration and purification of the water. The partially treated greywater is then channelled to a mini wetland located on the ground floor for further filtration. The final output is then utilized for irrigating the building's plants.
